Un nuevo libro recoge lo mejor del periodismo deportivo narrativo en Estados Unidos

Para comprobar el grado de desarrollo del periodismo deportivo narrativo en Norteamérica basta con hojear cada año el volumen The Best American Sports Writing, antología de historias deportivas publicadas en medios estadounidenses (y, en alguna ocasión, canadienses) cuya última edición se ha editado recientemente. Esta obra, iniciativa del editor Glenn Stout y que se viene publicando de forma ininterrumpida desde 1991, se ha convertido en un auténtico superventas en EE.UU. y en un libro de referencia para periodistas especializados y también para aficionados al deporte.

En el volumen correspondiente a 2017, aparece una notoria selección de historias, en mayor parte de largo formato, que fueron publicados entre febrero de 2016 y enero de 2017 y que en esta ocasión han sido recopiladas por el afamado escritor y periodista Howard Bryant, actualmente en ESPN.com y ESPN The Magazine. Muchas de esas historias ya fueron recogidas por sitios contenedores como Longreads.com o Longform.org y corresponden a medios que vienen apostando desde años por el reportaje longform (Sports Illustrated, ESPN The Magazine o The New Yorker) y por el periodismo de autor. Aquí figuran firmas de prestigio del periodismo deportivo estadounidense como John Branch, Wright Thompson, Dave Zirin o Don Van Natta Jr. Incluso aparece David Remnick, director de la revista The New Yorker.
